The Tarkwa District Court Two has sentenced an 18-year-old student, Bright Atanga, to 18 months' imprisonment for snatching the mobile phone of a student at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa.
Atanga was charged with unlawful entry and stealing and he pleaded guilty to both counts.
According to graphic.com.gh report on September 11, 2025, prosecuting police, Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah told the court, presided over by Isaac Osei Asare Esq, that the complainant, Samuel Dontoh, a businessman, resides at Nkamponase, while Atanga lives at Cyanide, both in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
She said that on April 14, 2025, the police received a distress call that Atanga was being beaten by a mob at Nkamponase, near UMaT.

“Officers rushed to the scene, rescued him, and took him to hospital for treatment before escorting him to the police station for questioning,” the report said.
The complainant later reported that on his return from town, he was informed Atanga had jumped over his fence wall into his compound but was apprehended by a mob.
According to the prosecution, Atanga admitted the offence and confessed to snatching a mobile phone from the UMaT student.
He said while being chased by the victim, he scaled Dontoh’s fence wall to seek refuge but was caught by the mob, who seized the stolen phone.
