An Accra Circuit Court on Friday remanded Godwin Tetteh, a student, into prison custody for robbery.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear on September 5.

The Counsel for the accused told the Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that his client is under 18 years but the father of Godwin says his son is 21 years old.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tuaruka Duuti told the Court that the complainant in the case Comfort Arkoh, a trader, resides at Banana Inn, a suburb of Dansoman in Accra.

He said on August 13, at about 12 midnight, the complainant was returning home after work and on reaching the Charismatic Church at Baller junction, the accused armed with a toy pistol followed and ordered her to surrender her mobile phone and money.

DSP Duuti said the complainant resisted and the accused person corked the fake pistol, he was holding and in the process succeeded in taking away the mobile phone and a sum of GH¢300.

“The complainant on seeing the accused person’s face very well made a report to the police,” he added.

The Prosecution said at about 10pm, the same day, the complainant saw the accused at the Summer Kiss Restaurant at Banana Inn and caused his arrest.

DSP Duuti said the accused person admitted the offence in his caution statement and was charged accordingly.

The mobile phone has since been retrieved and handed over to the complainant.
