Issah Awudu, a 32-year-old scrap dealer was on Tuesday convicted to a fine of GHc200.00 by the Suhum Magistrate’s Court for stealing three bags of cement valued at GHC45.00.

Awudu, described by the Police as a notorious criminal, pleaded guilty and would in default of payment of the fine go to prison for three months in hard labour.

Police Chief Inspector Ben Nyonator, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr C.K. Taah, that the complainant and Awudu lived at Boye Fitter, a suburb of Suhum.

He said on February 10, at about 0230 hours, the complainant woke up to urinate and spotted Awudu carrying three bags of cement.

The complainant confronted Awudu about how he came by the cement and he quickly threw them down and took to his heels.

The prosecutor said the complainant gave Awudu a hot chase and eventually arrested him.

Awudu then pleaded with the complainant to take the three bags of cement and allow him to go but he refused and escorted him to the Police Station.

During police interrogation, Awudu told the police that the three bags of cement belonged to his elder brother at Suhum Ayekotse Zongo but he could not lead the police to the brother’s house.
