Sunyani high court remands five armed robbers

Sunyani, Dec 6, GNA- A high court in Sunyani has remanded five suspected armed robbers, including a woman, who allegedly snatched a taxi cab at Abesim, near Sunyani. Isaac Kuma, 22, Etse Awusenyah, 24, Atsu Awusenyah, 24, Francis Acquaye, 21, and Mary Fosuah, 19, pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery.

They are to re-appear before the court on December 11, 2007. Mr. Robert Beke, Brong-Ahafo Regional State Attorney told the court presided by Mr. Justice L.L. Mensah that at about midnight on Sunday, April 22 this year, the accused, all workers of Delta Security Services in Sunyani hired a Nissan Premier taxi cab with registration number BA 677 X.

Prosecution said they asked the driver to send them to Tyco restaurant and drinking bar on the Sunyani-Kumasi road. Mr. Beke said on reaching the restaurant, the suspected armed robbers requested the driver, Mr. Andrews Frimpong to continue to Elena Guest house at Abesim and on the way they attacked and pulled him out of the vehicle and sped off towards Kumasi. Prosecution said a passer by saw the driver at the road side and sent him to the police, who immediately informed the Police in Kumasi about the incident. Mr. Beke said the Police arrested the suspects in the vehicle at a check point at Sofo line, Kumasi.
