Cape Coast, July 11, GNA - A young man, Yaw Afful, who allegedly murdered an 18 year old boy over a girl and bolted, had been arrested by the Police in the Central region seven years after the incident. In a statement released by the Central Region Police Command and signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Raymond Asaaba, during the Akwambo festival of people of Enyan-Apaa near Ajumako in September 2003, Afful confronted the deceased Jacob Quainoo, popularly known as Kofi Asabre for dancing with his girlfriend at a state dance. It said this degenerated into a scuffle and in the process Afful threw the victim onto the ground and hit his head against a metal bar of a canopy pole injuring him.

Mr Asaaba said after the incident the victim was sent to a private hospital at Mankessim and later to the Central Regional Hospital when his condition became worse. But he died on admission and the doctor, who examined him, said he died of severe head injury. He said Afful fled the town after the incident to New Abirem in the Eastern Region in 2003 until he was arrested on Monday June 28 this year and brought to Ajumako Police Station where he is being processed for court.

The statement appealed to the public to always exercise restraint in the heat of tempers and desist from subjecting people to severe beatings or acts that could demean the dignity of a person. It also warned that the law is like a web and when one gets one's self involved, it would catch up with the fellow no matter how long it takes.
