"Susu" collector granted bail for stealing from customers

Kumasi, Nov. 14, GNA- A Kumasi Circuit Court on Tuesday granted the Director of the Continental Savings and Loans, a "susu" company in Kumasi, a GH=A23,000 bail for allegedly stealing GH=A22,600 from his customers.

The accused, Sandy Alex Ofori, also a trader, pleaded not guilty to the charge and would re-appear before the court on December 12. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kuffour Boateng told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that, Monica Kwao and Adawada Martin, complainants, were employees of the Savings and Loans Enterprise detailed to collect monies from the customers.

However, in October this year, the accused person went behind his employees and personally collected monies to the tune of GH=A22,655 from some of the customers and immediately went into hiding. ASP Boateng added that, the complainants traced him to Oforikrom, also in Kumasi and led the police to arrest him. The Prosecutor said in the suspects caution statement, he admitted the offence and pleaded with the police to give him time to settle the debts, but he was arraigned. 14 Nov. 07
