Swedru High Court to rule on Mankessim chieftaincy case

Agona Swedru, Sept 9, GNA - The Agona Swedru high court has fixed September 15 to rule on the motion filed by Supi Abeka Kuntu and two others to pray the court to restrain the Paramount Chief and Queen Mother of Mankessim from taking part in the celebration of the Borborfantse Afahye festival.

In their affidavit the three claimed that Nana Osagyefo Amafo Adu VI and Nana Ama Amissah III, Omanhen and Queen Mother respectively of the area, were not the rightful chiefs to lead the people to celebrate the festival that has started and will reach its climax on Saturday September 11, 2010.

They claimed the two were not the truthful descendants of Obrumakomah, Odapagyan and Oson who led the people from Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region to establish Mankessim.

Mr Ebo Quarshie, counsel for the plaintiffs, prayed the court to grant the motion to restrain the Chief and the Queen mother immediately because it would be a taboo and offence to the gods and the people of Mankessim if the two were allowed to lead the celebration of the Afahye.

Mr Richand Anamoh, counsel for the chief and queen mother, prayed the court to dismiss the motion since the three people had no traditional status to challenge their credibility since their names had been registered in the National House of Chiefs register.
