Swedru police arrested two suspected armed robbers

Agona Swedru, Feb 21, GNA - The Swedru Police have arrested Kwabena Agyire, Alias Oposu, 36, for allegedly conspiring with Kwame Duodoo, 35 years to rob his brother Obed Eduah, a dentist of an amount of 5.7 million cedis and two mobile phones.

Three of his accomplices are at large and were being hunted by the Police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of Swedru District, Mr B B Bakomora, who disclosed this at the Annual West Africa Security Association (WASA) at Swedru said the victim, was shot in the stomach by his own brother with a locally manufactured pistol while one of the other robbers also stabbed him in the head. According to the DSP Bakomora the two suspects were being kept in Police cells and would soon be put before the Swedru Circuit Court. He stated that the victim's brother and other four masked robbers went to the house with intention to collect 100 million cedis sent by some brothers outside the country to repair their late father's house. DSP Bakomora noted that Duodoo was arrested at a hide out in the Assin District upon a tip off and confessed that it was the victim's brother who sent them to go and rob.

He pointed out that Agyire, was arrested upon the confession by Duodoo, adding that earlier the victims' brother had surrendered to the police.

DSP Bakomora said Ayire was re-arrested by that revelation which was made by the second suspect.

The District Police Commander said the Police recorded two murder cases last December and January, saying the accused persons had been remanded in prison custody.

He disclosed that one armed robbery case was recorded in the Swedru district and the suspects arrested.

DSP Bakomora assured the residents of Swedru that the Police would continue to protect life and property and called on them to feel free to give information about criminals since they would be protected. Mr Ben Mensah, Agona District Chief Executive, commended the Police personnel for their sterling performance in combating crime and urged them to work hard to redeem the negative perception of the public. Nana Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene observed that there had been an improvement in the performance of the Police personnel and assured them that the Chiefs would never interrupt them in the discharge of their duties to reduce crime in the area.
