Takoradi June 5, GNA - John Nwolley, a teacher resident at Esiama, on Tuesday appeared before a Takoradi Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime, riot and causing unlawful damage. His plea was not taken and was granted bail of GHC1,000 to re-appear on July 22 this year.
The Court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Justice Acquaye, a welder at Esiama, and 30 others now at large, who are jointly charged with Nwolley.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alice Parker-Wilson said on May.5 this year, the Ellembelle Constituency of the CPP organized a conference to elect constituency executives at Nyaniba's House at Nkroful.
She said at about 09:30 hours, party executives and supporters, invited guests and officials of the Electoral Commission were seated for the programme to start.
Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said suddenly, Nwolley and about 30 young men including Acquaye appeared at the scene.
She said they violently confronted the organizers and intimidated that they would not allow the programme to go on.
Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said the Policemen on duty there made every effort to bring the situation under control but Nwolley, who was the ring leader, and his accomplices did not pay heed to them.
She said they attacked the Policemen, destroyed plastic chairs, drinking glasses, dismantled one canopy and made away with flower pots all valued at GHC1,312,00.
Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said a report was made to the Police at about 17:30 hours the same day and Nwolley was arrested.
She said during investigations, Nwolley mentioned Acquaye as one of his accomplices and he was also arrested.
Chief Inspector Parker-Wilson said in his caution statement, Nwolley admitted having stopped the conference but denied causing unlawful damage.
She said Acquaye denied committing the offences.
