Teacher charged with murder through abortion.

Asamankese, March 27, GNA - A 35-year-old teacher, Franklin Akpoh Mensah has been placed in prison custody to reappeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court on April 6, this year, for murder. Mensah whose plea was not taken is charged with murdering the girl friend Phyllis Abena Mensah,35, through abortion.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J. F. Idan told the court that both Franklin and Phyllis lived at Asamankese and had been lovers for the past three years.

He said Phyllis, who was unemployed became pregnant early this year and Franklin sent her to a Medical Practitioner at a clinic at Nsawam to have the pregnancy terminated.

The Prosecutor said after the termination of the pregnancy, Phyllis's health deteriorated and she was rushed to the Asamankese Government Hospital for treatment on February 22.

Chief Inspector Idan said she died the next day, and a complaint was lodged with the Police .

He said Franklin, on hearing of the death of Phyllis, went into hiding but on March 2, this year, he reported himself to the Asamankese Police Station and was arrested.
