A 19-year-old driver’s mate who conspired with two others and robbed a teacher of her cash and other valuables valued at GH? 2,000.00 has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit.

Osei Kwaku was convicted on his own plea when he admitted having robbed Madam Matilda Owusu Bainey.

He however faces another charge of robbery when he denied stealing from Madam Abigail Ababio, a hairdresser and friend of Madam Bainey who fell prey together with her friend to the convict and his accomplices.

Kwaku was ordered by the Court presided over by Madam Comfort Tasiame to reappear on June 15 for trial to begin on the second offence in which he is accused of robbing the hairdresser of two mobile phones and cash valued at GH? 230.00.

His two accomplices are on the run and are being sought for by the police.

Police Chief Inspector Hannah Acheampong told the Court that the complainants are friends and live at Maakro, in Kumasi and on May 10 about 2230 hours while the two were returning from an outing, they were attacked by the robbers.

Wielding big stones, the three asked the ladies to surrender their hand bags which contained the cash and the items and they obliged.

As they bolted with the booty, the ladies mustered courage and gave them a hot chase amidst shouts for help. Their shouts attracted by-standers who managed to grab Osei, but he managed to free himself and slipped through with the other accomplices.

Two days after, a formal report was lodged with the police, leading to the arrest of Osei.
