Tema Police arrest eight persons for stealing rollers

Tema, Dec 04, GNA - The Tema Regional Police Command have arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in the stealing of 230 pieces of copper rollers valued at 4.5 billion cedis, property of the Ghana Textiles and Manufacturing Company (GTMC).

Five of the suspects, who are security men on duty at the time of the robbery, were said to have reported to the police of an attack by armed robbers who tied them and took away the items. They are Daniel Gbedzei Azumah, Samuel Aidoo, Eric Awortwe, and Dennis Bruce. A fifth person is on the run.

Briefing journalists the Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Jonathan Yakubu, said the other three suspects, Abdul Rahman, Salifu Abdulai, and Madam Catherine Ebe bought some of the stolen items from the suspects.

He said on November 11, the Police had a report that 10 armed robbers had raided the company, tied the security men on duty and stole 230 pieces of copper rollers.

He said police suspected an 'inside 'job' and conducted investigations that later showed that on the night of the incident some men came to the factory with an Urvan bus and with the help of the security men on duty loaded the items into it and drove away. Mr Yakubu said the doctor who examined the security men on request of the police reported that none of them had any mark of assault. appeared before a Tema Circuit Court. They would re-appear on January 14, next year.
