Tema Regional Police Command arrests wanted criminal

Tema, July 5, GNA - The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a wanted criminal, who has been on the run for the past five months. Narrating the incident leading to the arrest of Samson Mohammed, the suspect, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Augustine Gyenning, Tema Regional Police Commander said on the eve of February 11 this year, at the Kpone Barrier, Mohammed, on a motorbike with an accomplice, now on at large, were involved in a motor accident.

ACP Gyenning said Mohammed was rushed to the Tema General Hospital for treatment, but was later whisked away by two people, who claimed to be his brothers.


The Regional Police Commander said the Police personnel at the Kpone Barrier, later found a sack belonging to Mohammed, containing an AK47 rifle, a magazine with 26 rounds of ammunition, a pop gun with cartridges' and other weapons.


The Assistant Commissioner of Police told the Media that the Police then rushed to the hospital, only to be told that two men claiming to be his brothers had come for him.

He said the Police therefore declared him a wanted man and informed the general public to look out for him, and gave out descriptions indicating that Mohammed had a deep cut on the left cheek.


Mohammad was later arrested by land guards at Apolonia, a suburb of Ashaiman, ACP Gyenning added.


He appealed to the general public, who had been victimized by criminals in and around Dawhenya, Zenu and Gbetile, to come to the Police station to identify Mohammed, to help the Regional Police Command build a strong case.
