Tenant remanded for defiling landlady's daughter

Accra, Aug. 13, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Friday remanded into police custody Emmanuel Gbeti, a 28-year-old carpenter for allegedly defiling his landlady's 10 year old class three pupil at Weija.

Gbeti, who denied the charge, is expected to reappear on August 25.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court presided over by Mrs Patience Tetteh-Mills that the complainant was the victim's mother.

Gbeti is a tenant in the house at the complainant's house.

ASP Acquah said the accused allegedly defiled the victim in 2009, after she had gone to the accused to assist her wrap her exercise books with a brown paper.

On another occasion, prosecution said Gbeti had sex with the victim and warned her not inform anyone about the act else, he would kill her.

Prosecution said Gbeti for the third time invited the victim into his room but she refused and informed her mother about his conduct.

When the complainant and some elders confronted Gbeti over what the victim had told her mother, Gbeti confirmed the incident and pleaded for forgiveness.

ASP Acquah said the complainant therefore lodged a complaint with the Police at Weija and a medical form was issued to the victim.

Prosecution said the matter was later transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victims' Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Odorkor in Accra.

In a related development, a 21-year-old Nigerian, Kingsley Eko has also been remanded into Police custody on charges of abduction and defilement.

Eko pleaded not guilty to abduction and defiling a 14-year-old and the court has remanded him into Police custody to reappear on August 25.

ASP Acquah told the court that on August 4 this year, the victim went out to buy fried eggs at Nungua a suburb in Accra.

ASP Acquah said on her way, Eko managed to lure her into his room, locked her up and had sex with her.

After interrogation, she mentioned Eko as the one who camped her and had sex with her.

A report was made to the Police at DOVVSU, Nungua, which issued a medical form to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital.
