Thirty year-old blacksmith remanded

A 30 year-old blacksmith who attempted to sell one revolver pistol, one locally manufactured pistol, two locally manufactured bullets and one mark “4” ammunition to two security officers at Sewum near Enchi has been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

The plea of Dagadu Kofi Moses was not taken and he will re-appear before the Court on August 19.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr. Jutice Alex Obeng Asante that the complainant John Zigah is the Chief Security Officer of Lorando Mining Limited at Sewum.

He said on July 31, between the hours of 06:00 and 18:00, the complainant asked Nsor Atanga Stephen and Baidoo Raymond, security personnel of the Mine, to be on duty at “D” point within the site.

According to Inspector Amponsah, while the complainant was in his office, the two security officers brought the accused person together with the items to him and said he attempted to offer them for sale while they were on duty.

The accused person was arrested and later handed over to the police together with the items found on him.

The Prosecutor said during investigations, Dagadu who reside at New Yakasi claimed the ammunitions were given to him by one Nyamekye and the locally manufactured pistol also by the same person for repairs at Yakasi.

Dagadu added that a man known as skipper gave the revolver pistol to him about one and half months ago.

Detective Amponsah said all efforts made by the police to locate the whereabouts of the two men yielded not results.

The Prosecutor pointed out that the docket will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
