Three arrested for duping Jordanian of 29,500 Euros

Accra, June 3, GNA - The Accra Regional Police Command, has arrested three men who duped a Jordanian, Abdel Karim Mohammed, of 29,500 Euros.

The three are Michael Allotey, a taxi driver, Robert Mensah and George Ametepe. The fourth man, who is a Nigerian, is at large. Giving the facts of the case, Police Superintendent Dennis Abade, Accra Regional Crime Officer, said about a month ago the man on the run had a chat on the Internet with Mohammed, which brought the Jordanian to Ghana to purchase gold dust.

He said when Mohammed arrived on May 29, he was sent to Angelica Hotel at Shiashie by Allotey.

He said at about 2200 hours on May 3, the Nigerian and his accomplices had a meeting with Mohammed at his hotel where they brought a yellowish substance and showed it to him as pure gold. Superintendent Abode said they bargained and Abdel agreed to pay 29,500 Euros for it. However, when he brought out the money, the Nigerian and his accomplices seized the money and bolted with it and the alleged gold.

He said upon a tip off, the taxi driver was arrested and he led police to the arrest the other two suspects. Superintendent Abade said a search was conducted on them and an amount of 3,500 Pounds was found on Allotey while 500 Pounds and yellowish dust and letterheads bearing the name Gege Mineral Resources (Gh) Limited were also found Mensah.
