Three farmers before court for conspiracy, threat of death

Sekondi, March 29, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Tuesday granted 10 million cedis bail to Adjoa Kona, a farmer, for allegedly conspiring to commit crime and threat of death. The court, however, remanded Nicholas Quansah and Paa Willie, both farmers, who were jointly charged with Kona into prison custody. The accused persons, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, are to re-appear on April 10 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Adu Kyeremeh said Kwaku Noah, the complainant, was a farmer, residing at the Nyame Naonim Cottage at Tumatu, near Sekondi.

He said Adjoa Kona, the first accused and Nicholas Quansah, the second accused, resided at the Obra Nea Waraabo cottage at Tumatu, while Paa Willie, the third accused lived at Adum Dominase. Sergeant Kyeremeh said the complainant and Kona had been litigating over a parcel of farmland and for that matter, were not in good speaking terms.

He said in the morning on February 24 this year, the complainant went to his newly cleared farm, near the disputed land with two others to fell trees and met the three accused persons at the farm. Sergeant Kyeremeh said on seeing the complainant, Kona became offended and picked quarrel with him for disturbing her on the farm and this resulted in the exchange of words.

He said, while witnesses were trying to calm down tempers, Quansah said he and the accused persons would have killed the complainant, if he had come to the farm alone and thrown his body into the bush. Sergeant Kyeremeh said Paa Willie, who claimed the land belonged to his ancestors and gave portion of it to Kona, could not produce documents to prove this.

He said on February 27 this year, the complainant made a report to the Police and the accused persons were arrested and charged with the offences after investigations.
