Tema, Dec. 22, GNA -- The Tema Police have arrested three men in possession of 47 drums of diesel suspected to have been stolen from the canoe beach of the Tema Fishing Harbour and the Kpone beach. The suspects include Sylvester Adapapeh, 30 years, a native of Takoradi, Nurudeen Alhusein, 26 years, and a native of Buipe and Abdul Aziz 39 years also a native of Cape coast.
A statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Jonathan Yakubu indicated that the Police Patrol team on December 17 spotted Adapape at the Canoe beach with 32 drums of diesel. When questioned he said it was one Allotey and Kwadwo, both at large who sold it to him at 500,000 cedis each and had made an advance payment of 11 million cedis.
He was then arrested on suspicion of having stolen the diesel whiles the exhibits were also impounded, the statement said. According to the statement Alhusein and Abdul Aziz were found the following morning loading a VW LT van with fifteen drums of diesel at the Kpone Beach with other suspects who managed to escape during arrest. It said intelligence gathered so far suggested that the suspects might have bought the products from some foreign vessels on the high seas bordering Ghanaian territorial waters. The Tema Police has however, appealed to the public to report any suspicious movement of petroleum products by illegal dealers for appropriate action to be instituted against them.
