Three remanded for robbery

Three persons were on Monday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Jerry Danquah, Driver, David Asare, Trader and Isaac Donkor Cane Weaver were said to have conspired and robbed one Charles Egan of his land cruiser VXV8, two mobile phones worth GH¢ 2,700.00 and amount of GH¢ 1,400.00.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charge but were remanded to reappear on November 9.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector B. O Yeboah told the court that the complainant is a Chartered Accountant and lives at SCC, new Weija, while the accused persons live at Fadama.

He said on September, 19, at about 0200 hours the accused persons and one Dauda now at large jumped over the complainant’s fence wall and got into his compound.

He said the accused persons broke the kitchen door of the complainant’s apartment and had access to his hall. The complainant who was alone at home at the time in his bedroom heard the noise and realised there were some people in his hall and attempted to call the police.

The prosecution said the accused persons on hearing his voice rushed upstairs to his door and forcible broke into his room.

They held the complainant at gun point and ordered him to surrender every cash on him. The complainant surrendered GH¢ 400.00 in his wallet to them, but they also took his Nokia and Samsung mobile phones from him.

Police Chief Inspector Yeboah told the court that the accused persons threatened the complainant to give them more money or else they would kill him.

He said the complainant who was frightened told them that he had GH¢ 1,000.00 in his garage, so he led them to the garage to pick the said money in his car.

The prosecution said the accused persons not satisfied ordered the complainant to hand over the keys to the car to them. They got into the car and drove away.

He said the accused persons drove to Denu in the Volta Region, with the intention of driving to the Republic of Togo the next day to sell it, but unfortunately for them, they were involved in an accident, and Jerry who was driving appeared before a court in Denu.

He said Jerry was sentenced and convicted to a fine, but after he paid the fine, the police asked him to produce documents of the vehicle before it is released to him. Hence the vehicle was impounded.

On October 4, the accused persons got involved in a similar robbery spree and snatched a Toyota Hilux pickup.
