Nkawkaw, June 24, GNA - The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command on Tuesday arrested three suspected armed robbers with jack knives, who had planned to rob a number of residents of the Nkawkaw Rojo Hotel area. The three suspects, Anastas Kwesi Amankwaah, 22 years, unemployed, Evans Adu, 27, student and Daniel Kwesi Safo, 28, mason, are all resident in Accra.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), William Daah, Nkawkaw Divisional Crime Officer, told newsmen that Amankwaah and Adu arrived at Nkawkaw on Sunday from Accra to survey their operational area. He said they later called Safo, who was in Accra on telephone to meet them at the Nkawkaw Lorry Park the following day to which he obliged.

The Crime Officer said as soon as Safo arrived, Amankwaah brought out three jack knives, which he shared among them for their operations. He said soon after that the three confronted one Kweku Asiamah who was wearing a camouflage military hat, and Amankwaah produced a fake cadet corps identity card to claim that he was a soldier and attempted to seize the hat while he pulled out his jack knife.

ASP Daah said Asiamah reported their conduct to police personnel on barrier duty near the area and the three were arrested and the jack knives and the fake identity cards retrieved from them after a search. He said the three had been placed in police custody pending an identification parade to enable those who fell victim to recent robberies in the town to identify them.
