The Police in Tumu in the Sissila East Municipality have arrested three suspected robbers (names withheld) for allegedly terrorizing travellers along Lawra and Jirapa and Jirapa Hamile trunk roads.

ASP Stephen Abanga, the Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday “We have taken a number of items from them. They include 16 android smart phones, One IPad, One laptop, a sum of GH? 2,263.00 and 8,000 CFA and some Chinese currency notes (in ten denominations),”

“We are collaborating with our counterparts in Lawra and Jirapa to get three more of the suspects who are at large,” he added.

The robbers were in two separate groups operating from different locations, he said, “The first group was arrested within Tumu area with two accomplices who were identified but now on the run”.

He said the alleged accomplices have abandoned their places of abode as Police intensifies search for them.

ASP Abanga, said the second group operates between Jirapa and Hamile, “They did an operation in between Jirapa and Hamile and were bringing their booty to Tumu to share when we arrested them.”

He said a member of the first group who was arrested in Tumu few days earlier is of Fulani descent.

He said for two months now the area has witnessed an upsurge in armed robbery attacks and that is why the Police are redoubling their efforts to curb them.

“That is why we have been trailing some armed robbers who have been operating and terrorizing residents in the Sissala East Municipality and fortunately this morning we trailed them from Jirapa area till they entered Tumu when we arrested them,” ASP Abanga said.

He said the names of those arrested are being witheld until “we track down the rest through collaboration with our colleagues in Lawra and Jirapa”.

He appealed to the public to volunteer information to the police to help arrest the rest.
