A trader, Adam Abdul Razak, 24, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly abducting and defiling a female under sixteen years.

Razak who pleaded not guilty to the charges of abduction and defilement, has been remanded into police custody to re-appear on July 8.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire were that, the complainant, Michael Gilbert Essien, is the biological father of the victim, aged 15, while the accused person, Razak, is a trader at Tema New. Inspector Atimbire said the victim had a misunderstanding with her elder sister over a mobile phone, and left home without returning.

Inspector Atimbire said the complainant made efforts to trace her whereabouts of the accused person, but all proved futile and residents in the neighbourhood were asked to be on the look-out for the victim.

The prosecutor said on May 25, this year, the victim reported herself at her father’s office in Koforidua, and revealed to him that the accused person met her in Tema and took her to his house. She said when she entered his room, the accused person quickly locked the door and forcibly undressed her and had sex with her.

Inspector Atimbire said the complainant on hearing the story, reported the matter to the Nungua branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit where a medical form was given to her for examination and treatment at the hospital.

The prosecution said the accused person was arrested and during investigations he admitted the offence of the abduction but denied defiling the girl.
