The Mpraeso Circuit Court has imposed a fine of GH¢1,800 on a 32-year-old trader from Akim Afosu for biting off the lower lip and the left eye brow of a colleague trader during a fight.

She is also to pay GH¢1,000 compensation to the victim.

The trader, Martha Kpovor, pleaded not guilty to two counts of causing unlawful harm and intentionally causing harm to her colleague trader, Elizabeth Boateng.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Christian Apronti told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei that, both the complainant and Martha live in the same vicinity at Akim Afosu, in the Birim North District.

He said on April 12, at about 1100 hours, Martha went to dump refuse at a site but Elizabeth vehemently protested against that, resulting into a quarrel between them, but it was peacefully resolved.

The prosecutor said in the evening of the same day, at about 1700 hours, while Elizabeth was returning from the market, Martha attacked her without any provocation and bit off her lower lip and left eye brow.

The victim was rushed to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital for treatment and later reported the case to the police where a medical form was issued to her.

Martha was later arrested and charged with the offence.

In his ruling, the judge said Elizabeth could institute legal actions against Martha for additional compensation to undertake a plastic surgery on her lip.**
