Tuobodom (B/A), Aug. 17, GNA- A Magistrate's court at Tuobodom in Brong Ahafo on Tuesday remanded a trader into prison custody for stealing.
Mohammed Sani, 26, who pleaded not guilty will re-appear on September 2.
He was alleged to have broken into a chemical store and stalls and stealing 500,000 cedis and a mobile phone valued at seven million cedis. An accomplice, Bismark Sapeo, 33, also a trader who pleaded not guilty for dishonestly receiving was also remanded to re-appear on August 19.
Police Inspector Comfort Nyamesah told the court that on May 18 this year, Mr. John Amankwah Okrah, a businessman and owner of the chemical store in Techiman found that there were losses of items in the store.
Inspector Nyamesah said the complainant that the thieves used an implement to cut the ceiling of the store to gain entry into the store.
The prosecution said Mr Okrah had information that the stolen phone was being used at a communication center belonging to Bismark at Ashanti-Bekwai.
On interrogation, Bismark told the police that he purchased the phone from Mohammed at the cost of five million cedis and had paid him an advance of 4.7 million cedis, leaving a balance of 300,000 cedis. Mohammed was consequently arrested and he allegedly admitted selling the phone to Bismark.
