Gladys Tetteh, a trader at Asutsuare who allegedly succeeded in defrauding a businesswoman to the tune of GHC5,700 by false pretence, has been arraigned before court.
Gladys pleaded not guilty when she appeared before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy.
She was granted bail in the sum of GHC12,000 with two sureties to be justified. She could however not fulfil the bail bond and was remanded in prison custody.
The prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, told the court that the complainant, Cynthia Kyei-Bonsu, was a businesswoman and a native of Kumasi while the accused person was a native of Asutsuare.
He said a year ago, Cynthia, who deals in rice business, gave an amount of GH¢5,700 to Gladys who also trades in rice to supply her with rice from the Asutsuare area which the accused promised to deliver within some few days.
ASP Yeboah said as soon as Gladys received the money, she went into hiding and all efforts by Cynthia to trace her proved futile.
Cynthia, therefore, reported the case to the Asutsuare Police.
He said on May 6 this year, at about 7:40 pm, the accused was spotted at her hideout and the police picked her up.
In her caution statement, Gladys admitted the offence and explained that she gave the money she collected from Cynthia to one T. T. who promised to supply the rice but he failed to honour his promise.
She told the police that she made frantic efforts to retrieve the amount from the said T.T. but she could not locate him, hence her failure to supply the rice as planned.
