Trader granted bail for defrauding by false pretense

A 48-year-old trader who defrauded the manager of a cocoa buying company in Tepa has been granted a GHc 100,000.00 bail with one surety, by the Tepa Circuit Court in the Ahafo-Ano North Municipality.

Akwasi Yeboah is said to have introduced himself to Mr Godwin Kofi Djakpasu, the Tepa District Manager of Best Link Cocoa Purchasing Company Limited, as a cocoa purchasing clerk from Sunyani and wanted to supply the company with some cocoa beans.

The report was that after receiving an initial amount of GHc 47,000.00 from the complainant, he failed to supply the cocoa beans and went into hiding.

He pleaded not guilty and will reappear before the court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey on July 30 this year, for trial.

Police Inspector Jonas Newlove Agyei, told the court that the suspect in December last year, entered into a business agreement to supply cocoa beans to the complainant’s company.

He said after receiving the initial amount of GHc 47,000.00 the suspect went into hiding.

The prosecution said in June this year, the complainant got information that the suspect was in Cote d’ Ivoire doing some cashew business.

He said the complainant inform a Pastor of the suspect who convinced him to return to Ghana.

He said upon his arrival in Sunyani, he was arrested by the Police and transferred him to Tepa to face the charges.

Inspector Agyei said the suspect admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and was charged and arraigned.
