An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Francis Obiri, has sentenced David Amoah, a trader, to a total of 40 years imprisonment for robbery and conspiracy.
The convict would serve 25 years for robbery and an additional 20 years for conspiracy to commit crime.
The Judge, in delivering his judgment, said the 26-year old convict had not shown any remorse for his actions and needed a harsher sentence.
The convict was on June 4, sentenced to 35 years imprisonment for the same offence by the same court.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainant in the case was a driver. The convict lived at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
He said on August 12, last year, at about 0100 hours the convict, with two other accomplices now at large, hired the complainant’s taxi from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Passport Office, at Ridge.
DSP Acheampong said somewhere around Ridge, the convict and his accomplices pulled out a knife, beat up the complainant, and took away the vehicle.
He said two days later, at about 20 minutes after midnight, the convict and his accomplices attempted to snatch another taxi at the same spot but was arrested and handed over to the Police.
The prosecution said the convict, in his cautioned statement, admitted having snatched a Toyota car, together with two accomplices, whom he named as Kobby and Kwabena.
