Two Nigerians sentenced for stealing rams

Nsawam, May 6, GNA - Two Nigerians, Seidu Mohammed, 40, and Seidu Karaam 35, were on Thursday sentenced to three years imprisonment each with hard labour by the Nsawam circuit court in the Akuapem South District for stealing two rams.

The rams valued at 700,000 cedis belong to Alhaji Ibrahim Banda, a herbalist of Asuokow near Asamankese. They pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Chief Police Inspector, Joyce Adamah told the court, presided over by Group Captain Obeng Ntim (Rtd) that the two accused persons on May 5, this year, at about 0400 hrs entered the kraal of Alhaji Banda at Asuokow, managed to steal the rams and tied them in a nearby bush.

Chief Inspector Adamah said the accused then went to Asamankese, hired a taxi and on their return through Asuokow asked the driver of the taxi to help them pick some luggage in the bush. The driver, Kwasi Poku who was aware of rampant stealing of rams in the area, upon reaching Nsawam drove the accused persons to the Police Station. The driver informed the Nsawam Police of the operations of the accused persons and when they were interrogated they admitted stealing the rams to sell in Accra.
