Bibiani (W/R), Sept. 1, GNA - The Bibiani Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Osei Kofi Amoako, has remanded two brothers into prison custody on a provisional charge of murder. James Mensah, a 32-year old "Akpeteshie" (hard liquor) distiller and Isaac Acheampong, aged 23 and unemployed are alleged to have murdered a one and a half-year-old boy at Basengere, near Bibiani in the Western Region on July 7.
The deceased was the biological son of James Mensah. Their pleas were not taken and they would re-appear on September 30, 2009. Detective Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah told the court that a misunderstanding that ensued between Mensah and his wife, Comfort Bukari caused her to leave the matrimonial home together with the children to stay with her parents. They have two children. Detective Inspector Asamoah said on that fateful day, Bukari left little Tieku in the care of some people in the house and went to farm. On her return, she could not find the child and therefore, informed the Unit Committee in the town which organized a search party but they could not trace little Tieku.
Detective Inspector Asamoah said on July 19, the body of the child was discovered in a nearby bush about 50 yards from the house of Mensah. He said in the course of police investigations, a witness told the police that he saw Mensah carrying the son, who was then asleep into his room, adding that, Acheampong, the second suspect was with Mensah at that time.
The prosecutor said during interrogation, the suspects accused each other of masterminding the killing and both were charged with the offence.
