Two men, engaged by a businessman at his warehouse, have run into trouble with the law over the theft of a large quantity of rice and flour valued at GH?75,431.00.
Vincent Twumasi Sarpong and Kofi Kyem were on Friday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court, charged with stealing.
Standing trial with them, are Christian Kwadwo Adomako, who would always cart the stolen goods in his taxi to Phyllis Afrakomah alias “Mother”, trader and an alleged recipient.
They all pleaded not guilty to the crime and the three men were each granted GH?75,000.00 bail with three sureties, one to be justified, by the court presided over by Mrs. Afua Adu Amankwaah.
Afrakomah’s bail conditions were however varied with the bail amount pegged at GH?5,000.00.
The four were ordered to make their next appearance on Thursday, October 1.
Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court that the complainant, Kwaku Boakye, is a businessman and had employed Sarpong and Kyem at his warehouse at the Adum Business District in Kumasi.
On December 29, last year he received information that the pair had stolen some bags of rice and flour from the warehouse and he made a formal report to the police leading to their arrest.
Sarpong confessed to the crime in his caution statement, mentioned the other accomplices. A cash of GH?1,600.00 being part of the money realized from the sale of the stolen rice and flour, was also recovered from him.
The prosecution said it was established during stock-taking and audit of records commissioned by the businessman that Sarpong and Kyem had stolen goods totaling GH?75,431.00.
