Two granted bail for stealing diesel

Two persons being tried at the Tarkwa circuit court for allegedly conspiring to steal six gallons of diesel valued at GH¢ 92.87.00 at Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), Tarkwa have been granted GH¢ 6,000.00 bail each with a surety each to be justified.

The two, Richard Cobbinah, 33, a driver and Moses Quaison, 27, a cleaner pleaded not guilty to the offense and will re-appear before the court on August 28.

At an earlier sitting, the Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Alex Obeng Asante that the complainant, Richard Tienaa, is a dozer operator, working with GGL Tarkwa, whiles the accused persons are employees of Antwisoda, a sub-contractor, responsible for cleaning earth moving equipment at GGL, Tarkwa.

He said on July 16, the accused persons, who were on duty at the Atuabo Waste dump within the Company’s premises to clean the doser, which the complainant had packed and left for launch.

Inspector Amponsah said when Tienaa returned to the machine, he met Cobbinah and Quaison siphoning diesel from the machine into a yellow can.

The complainant then confronted the accused persons but they could not give any tangible reason and he reported the matter to his supervisor, who also informed the security officers of the GGL, Tarkwa.

The Prosecutor said security officers of the mining firm went to the scene of the crime, arrested the accused persons and handed them over to the police for investigations.
