Juaso-Ashanti, Oct. 08, GNA - A Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon has sentenced a student and teacher to nine months imprisonment each in hard labour on their own plea for examination malpractice.
Thomas Sarfo, student and Paul Owusu, teacher pleaded guilty to two counts of impersonation and conspiring to commit crime. Mr Boon passing sentence, pointed out that examination malpractice was becoming rampant in the area.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Francis Baah, prosecuting told the court that Sarfo was a first-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) while Owusu was a teacher at Juaso Catholic Primary School.
He said they were classmates in a junior secondary school, both registered for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as private candidates and sat next to each other in the examination hall by virtue of their index numbers. The prosecution said on September 27, while writing Chemistry Paper Two at Konongo-Odumasi Secondary School (KOSS), the accused were found to have written each other's name on the answer sheets provided. ASP Baah said a policeman on duty was notified and they were arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
