A Kumasi Circuit Court on Friday sentenced two young men to 30 years imprisonment each in hard labour for robbery.

Dominic Anokye alias “Amansan,” a driver, and Osei Kwabena, alias “Kobby,” a shoemaker, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and robbery but were found culpable after the full trial.

Two of their accomplices are still at large.

A State Attorney, Miss Justina Rosebud Anyan, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that, the complainant: Clement Akumpike is a businessman, resident at Anomangye in Kumasi whilst Anokye and Osei live at Jachie.

On February 6, this year, at about 0540 hours, the complainant was on his way to Asafo Market to buy meat for his cold store business.

After alighting at the traffic light near the market, the convicts together with the accomplices attacked him at knife point and took away his bag containing an amount of GHc3,500, a National Health Insurance and ATM cards.

They also stabbed him at the back of his neck and right arm during a struggle between him and the convicts.

Miss Anyan, said the ensuing commotion brought to the scene some people who managed to arrest Anokye whereas the rest escaped with the booty

Anokye was handed over to the police and during interrogations mentioned Osei and others as his accomplices.

On February 15, the Police arrested Osei at his hideout at Konkomba market in Accra, and after further investigations the two were charged and brought before the court.
