Two out of four persons who robbed some Chinese nationals and their Ghanaian counterparts near Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region have been arrested.

After robbing their victims of valuables, including mobile phones, the suspects forced one of them to transfer an amount of GH¢30,000 to an MTN Mobile Money number, after which they fled the scene.

According to the facts of the case contained in a police situational report sighted by MyNewsGh.com, on April 29, 2024, at about 11 pm, two Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians were returning from the Benenebeng forest near Jacobu after loading their excavators to Anwiankwanta.

They were attacked by four armed men with guns at Fiakoma near Jacobu. The suspects robbed them of two iPhones and an amount of GH¢7,000.00, and further forced one of the Chinese nationals to transfer an amount of GH¢30,000.00 from his phone number to MTN number 0541038357, registered under the name Esther Opoku.

On June 15, 2024, police tracked the aforementioned Esther Opoku to Obuasi and apprehended her. She admitted to the offense but informed the police that one of the suspects, named Peter Boadi—who is her ex-boyfriend—had called to inform her about the transfer.

According to her statement, her ex-boyfriend and three others came to her, and she withdrew the said amount for them, after which they gave her GH¢700.00.

Police investigators managed to arrest suspects Eric Danso, aged 21, and Daniel Kwaku Owusu, aged 35, at their hideouts in Fiankoma and Konongo Patreansa, respectively, for their involvement in the robbery.

Both confessed to their involvement in the crime. Suspect Daniel Kwaku Owusu admitted he received GH¢10,000 of the stolen money, while suspect Eric Danso also admitted to receiving GH¢7,000.

Meanwhile, the main leader of the gang, suspect Peter Boadi, who also possesses a locally manufactured pistol, is being actively pursued by the authorities.
