Two remanded for defiling two minors

Two persons accused of defiling two minors aged nine and 13 at Old Fadama and Taifa were on Wednesday remanded into Police custody by an Accra Circuit Court. Sunday Oje, 36 year- old trader and Gideon Obeng a 25 year- old labourer have been charged with defilement.

Oje was additionally charged for allegedly inserting his fingers into the vagina of a nine year old girl at Old Fadama. The two who have pleaded not guilty to the charges are expected to reappear on July 17 before the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Veronica R. Ofei told the court that the victim and her mother who is the complainant reside at Old Fadama while Oje, a Nigerian trader reside in the same vicinity.

Chief Inspector Ofei said the victim runs errands for Oje and a friend. During the beginning of 2013, Oje on four occasions lured the victim into his room and had sex with her. Oje according to prosecution on June 14, this year had sex with the victim after inserting her fingers into her vagina.

Prosecution said the victim informed her mother about the accused people’s conduct who reported the matter to the Police at Old Fadama. The matter was referred to Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) of Ghana Police Service where a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital for examination and treatment.

In the case of Obeng, Chief Inspector Ofei said the complainant who is the mother of the victim resides at Mr Agyei- Taifa. Prosecution said the victim is a class two pupil. On April 17, this year, at about 1730 hours, the complainant sent the victim on an errand.

On her return, Obeng lured her into a kiosk and had sex with her. After the act, prosecution said the victim informed her younger sister who also informed their mother.

A complaint was lodged with DOVVSU, Madina and accused was arrested while a medical form was issued to the victim to visit the hospital for examination and treatment.
