Kade, Aug. 25, GNA - The Kade District Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded two people in police custody for murdering Efo Kofi Gbeti, a 65-year-old man. The accused, Christian Gbeti, an 18-year old son of the deceased and Mohammed Awal, popularly known as Tanko would reappear on September 8.

Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, prosecuting, told the court that about two years ago, Tanko bought a building plot belonging to the deceased at the outskirts of Akwatia. He said repeated request by Tanko to the deceased to vacate the plot proved futile, as a result the matter was referred to the Akwatia Building Plots Allocation Committee, which decided to give Tanko an alternative plot opposite the one Gbeti sold to him. The prosecutor said according to Christian Gbeti about five months ago, Tanko went to the deceased and threatened to eliminate him if he refused to vacate the plot.

Later, Tanko went to Christian and offered him GH¢ 20 and advised him to leave the house before he and his men struck. The prosecutor said one night Christian left the house to watch a film in town and since it rained he spent the night with his sister, but on his return the next morning the father was not in the house. The prosecutor said a few distance away, Christian found a freshly dug spot and suspected that his father might have been killed and buried there,

Christian, however, told those enquiring about his father that he was sick and had therefore been sent to his home town in the Republic of Benin for treatment. The prosecutor said Christian later explained that because of fear for his life he did not tell anybody that he suspected that his father might have been killed. On August 19, a resident of the area where the deceased was residing confronted Christian about the where about of his father. He then disclosed that he suspected that the old man might have been killed by Tanko and buried near the house. A report was therefore made to the police and Tanko and Christian were arrested. The Magistrate, Mr Kwaku Baah Frempong, ordered that the body be exhumed and autopsy conducted. 25 Aug. 09
