Two robbers jailed 80 years in Kumasi

Kumasi, Feb 9, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced two people to 40 years imprisonment each for attempting to snatch a taxi cab from its driv= er.

Baba Atia alias "Ackom", 20, a labourer and Mohammed Adongo also known a= s "Colio", 31, a taxi driver, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and robbery. Kwadwo John, alias Kwadwo Mohammed, their accomplice, who led the police= to arrest them after the robbery, had already been sentenced to the same ter= m of imprisonment by the court.

Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the Court presided ov= er by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that at midnight on February 7 last ye= ar John, Atia and Adongo hired a taxi Kofi Dwomoh was driving from Bantama t= o Adoato in Kumasi. At a dark section at Adoato, they ordered the driver to stop the vehicle=

but he refused.

Chief Inspector Fandoh said Adongo, who was sitting in the front seat, attempted to remove the ignition key while those at the back seat beat th= e driver up.

In the ensuing struggle the vehicle veered off the road, ran over a gutt= er and crashed into a wall. Dwomoh raised the alarm and Kwadwo John was arrested while Atia and Adon= go escaped but Kwadwo John later led the police to arrest the two from their=

hideout.
