Tema, March 24, GNA - Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rebecca Nyamah, Tema Police Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), on Wednesday said that the Unit had in its custody two suspected child traffickers.
She told GNA that Ishaitu Musah, 38, and Masawudu Mohammed, 31, were apprehended by the Police at the Kpone barrier, in Accra, on board a blue-black BMW saloon car with a Nigerian registration number, and handed over to the Unit, together with two children and a 20-year-old lady. ASP Nyamah said Ishaitu, a food vendor, resides in Lagos, Nigeria, while Mohammed, a driver, plies the Accra and Nigeria road. ASP Nyamah explained that the Police at the barrier became suspicious when they saw the victims shabbily dressed in the car they had stopped. She said that the suspects told the Police that they were travelling to Nigeria with the victims.
The victims are 10-year-old Linda Bosomtwe from Abadze in the Central Region, Comfort Yeboah, 20, and Comfort Kukua Arthur, 10, both natives of Tsereso in Oda.
ASP Nyamah said that that Ishaitu told the Police that she was sending Linda to her father in Lagos, while Yeboah also claimed to be the mother of Kukua. ASP Nyamah said that Yeboah denied knowing Kukua during interrogation at the DOVVSU office. She appealed to the public to help the Police locate the parents of the victims, and advised parents against allowing their children to travel with people since they could be trafficked.
Kukua told the GNA that Yeboah's mother and her mother were friends. Kukua said that her mother with whom she was residing at Tsereso, handed her over to Yeboah after telling her that she would be sent to Nigeria without telling her what she was going to do there. 24 March 10
