Two suspected robbers have been nabbed in Kumasi and are being held by the police.

Sulemana Issifu, 35, and Kwadwo Amoani, 25, are believed to part of a four-member gang that had been carrying out series of robberies in the metropolis.

They are known to snatch cars from their owners at gun point for the operations and later abandon the vehicles.

Issifu had just completed a five-year jail term while Amoani is standing trial for a similar offence and had been granted bail.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Augustine Gyening, the Ashanti Regional Commander, told a press briefing that they were arrested by the Asokwa police patrol team, following a tip off.

Their two other colleagues, however managed to slip through and are on the run.

He said a quantity of stolen textiles together with wheel covers, a video camera, 22 cellular phones, two modems, four pen drives, empty laptop computer bags and boutique dresses had been retrieved from them.

He said the gang would engage the services of taxi drivers in the night and then pull locally manufactured pistols and machetes to seize the cars to attack travelers.

The Regional Commander spoke of an instance on August 11, at about 0135 hours, when they snatched a KIA Spectra taxi with the registration number AS 7379 12 from the driver, amidst firing of gun shots and used that very car to rob passengers in a KIA Avera cab.

He said they took away a photo printer, a digital camera, cellular phones and cash of GH¢150.00 in that particular robbery incident.

DCOP Gyening advised taxi drivers to be more vigilant.
