An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced Isaac Mensah, Electrician; and Samuel Ofosu, a Driver to eight years imprisonment each for conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage and stealing items valued at GHC44,250.00.

The two conspired and entered a house and bedroom of the complainant, caused damage to his sliding window worth GHc15,000.00 and stole his GHc300.00, and an Apple iPhone 5s mobile phone worth GHc3,000.00.

Other items stolen included an LG mobile phone worth GHc3,000.00, a G-stock wrist watch worth GHc2,450.00, three footwears worth GHc2,500.00, Samsung S7 edge worth GHc3,000.00 and a foreign Taurus LD Pistol worth GHc15,000.00.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges but were found guilty after trial by the court presided over by Mr M. E. Essandoh and were sentenced to serve two years on each count to run consecutively.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Isaac Agbemehia told the court that, the complainant Simon Kofi Ohene, is a hotelier and lives at East Legon Adjiringanor, whilst Isaac resides at Madina and Samuel at La-Nkwantanan.

He said on July 27, 2017, at about 0330 hours, the National SWAT Patrol team detailed at Oyarifa-Madina route intercepted a green Hyundai Grace commercial vehicle, driven by Samuel Saah at Adenta Aviation junction road.

He said the two convicts were the only passengers on board, so the police stopped the car and ordered them to come down for a routine check.

The Prosecutor said, Isaac sensing danger threw away an item concealed in a newspaper together with his orange and ash coloured school bag into the vehicle and took to his heels, but the police gave him a chase and arrested him.

Mr Agbemehia said Isaac was brought back to the vehicle to retrieve the item concealed in the newspaper and it was a foreign Taurus Brazil revolver pistol.

The school bag was also searched and the police retrieved a car jerk, implement adapted for unlawful entry, an amount of GHc3,000.00, three foot wears, one iPhone 5s, one LG mobile phone, a cigarette lighter and a glue patch tape.

According to the Prosecutor, when Isaac was questioned as to where they got the items from, he said the two of them broke into the complainants’ room at Adjiringanor and stole the items including the pistol.

They further informed the police that, they used the car jerk to jack the complainant’s window’s burglar-proof to gain access into the room.

He told the court that in their caution statement, they admitted the offences.
