Two traders before court for allegedly pirating VCDs and DVDs

Accra, July 15, GNA - Two traders who allegedly pirated local and foreign VCDs and DVDs on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, charged with infringement of copyright or related rights protected without licence or authorisation.

Atsu Sevordzie and Emmanuel Kuwornu pleaded not guilty and were granted GH¢10,000 bail with two sureties each.

Moses Ifeanyi Adindu, jointly charged with the accused persons was absent and the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Police Superintendent Abichad Boye, prosecuting said the complainant, Mr Joshua Odoom is the Anti-piracy Officer at Copyright Ghana, while the accused persons are traders residing at Dansoman, Mallam and Kasoa and dealing in both local and foreign VCDs and DVDs.

He said in June, authorities of Copyright Ghana had information that local and foreign VCDs and DVDs were being pirated and sold at cheaper prices on the market leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
