Tyre fitter jailed 12 months for stealing

A 27 year-old tyre fitter has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing.

Ishmeal Owusu Ansah, tyre fitter working with Rana Motors, a subsidiary company of Anglo Gold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa, was on Monday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit court for stealing one Nissan Patrol air condition compressor and one Toyota Land Cruisher hub housing, valued at GH¢5,325.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant, Abraham Amoah, is a security officer of Anglo Gold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa.

She said at about 19:55 hours on September 5 this year, the complainant saw Ishmael throwing a bag behind the fence at the Company’s car park.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said Amoah monitored the movement of the accused and later, he was arrested him with the bag.

She said when the bag of the accused was searched, the stolen items were found and he was handed over to the Police with the items.

Chief Inspector Tawiah said the accused in his cautioned statement said he stole the items from a container at the Light duty vehicle workshop at Ango Gold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa.
