Asamankese, (E/R) June 30, GNA - A 40-year-old unemployed, William Anyane, who was recently released from prison after a 12-year sentence, has been remanded in prison custody for threatening to kill his mother over 1,000 cedis by the Asamankese Circuit Court. Anyane, who pleaded not guilty will re-appear on July 12.
Police Chief Inspector Alhassan Amadu, prosecuting said on June 12, this year, the complainant, Madam Veronica Inkum, gave Anyane a 5,000-cedi note and asked him to use 4,000 cedis out of it and return the balance of 1,000 cedis. However, Anyane who did not want to give the 1,000 cedis back to the mother became furious and accused her of stealing his personal effects when he was serving his sentence in prison.
Anyane was said to have then ordered his mother to follow him to the police station in order for him to lodge a complaint against her for stealing and threatened to kill her on the spot if she dared to refuse. For fear of her life, Madam Inkum followed the son to the Asamankese Police station where he made a report of stealing against her.
The prosecutor said upon interrogation of Anyane and the mother, however, a case of threat of death was made against him and he was arrested and placed in cells. The Prosecutor said when Anyane was asked by the investigator to make a cautioned statement he said he reserved his statement for the courts. He was, therefore, charged with the offence of threatening to kill his mother and put before court.
