For biting off the nose of a carpenter over five Ghana cedis, Kadija Alhassan, unemployed, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Kadija, charged with causing unlawful harm, pleaded guilty and the court, presided over by Ms Audrey Kokuvie Tay, sentenced her accordingly.

Benjamin William would need to undergo plastic surgery to restore his nose. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Ophelia Darteh, told the court that the complainant, Mr Benjamin William, is a carpenter.

Mr William and Kadija lived at Tuobodom near Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. Chief Inspector Darteh said on November 15, this year, Kadija gave Mr William GH¢25.00 to purchase some items in order to commence work on her kiosk.

Prosecution said the complainant bought the items as required leaving the balance of GH¢5.00.

On November 19, this year, at about 20 hours GMT, Kadija went to the complainant to demand her balance of GH¢5.00 but this generated into a fight. During the fight, prosecution said Kadija bit off Mr William’s nose.

The situation drew people to the scene who apprehended Kadija to the police station while Mr William was sent to the hospital for treatment.

Prosecution said Kadija, during police interrogation, denied biting off complainant’s nose but indicated that she hit him with a stone thereby causing the injury.
