Asamankese, Dec. 21, GNA -Kwame Tetteh, an 18-year-old unemployed, was on Monday sentenced to three years in jail in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court for stealing a VCD player and cash of GHC 2,500. Tetteh pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing. Prosecuting, Police Inspector D.T. Nartey told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Siame that on December 12 at Akwadum near Akwatia, the complainant, John Tei, returned to his house from town to detect that his door had been forced opened.
When he entered the room, he observed that it had been ransacked and his VCD player and cash in the sum of GHC 2,500, which was under his pillow taken away.
In the course of his personal investigations, a witness in the case told the complainant that he saw Tetteh leaving the house with a VCD player. That led to the arrest of Tetteh and during police investigations, another witness brought the stolen VCD player and informed police that the convict sent it to him and wanted to pawn it for money but he refused. Tetteh, in his caution statement to the police, admitted having stolen the VCD from the complainant's room but denied knowledge of the stolen money.
