Unemployed man convicted for stealing

A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced Joseph Cardinal Emmisah, unemployed, to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing items worth GH? 499.00.

The convict who was sentenced recently for committing a similar offence was charged for causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.

He pleaded guilty to all the three counts and was sentenced on his own plea.

Before passing judgement, Mr Justice Alex Obeng Asante, said the convict deserved to be isolated from the society following his criminal activities.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah said the complainant John Essien is an illegal miner who lived at Layout Aboso with his wife Madam Cynthia Cudjoe who is a trader while Emmisah is also a squatter at Aboso in the Prestea Huni/Valley district.

She said on February 19, around 1740 hours, John woke up and found out that his kiosk in which his son Joseph Essien sleeps has been broken into and some of his belongings as well as that of his son had been stolen.

According to the Prosecutor, the complainant informed Cynthia who intend alerted neighbours about the theft.

Inspector Tawiah said the youth of the town started searching for the culprit and spotted Emmisah with a school bag walking around the vicinity.

She said the convict was arrested and found a school bag containing a Tarkwa Senior High School home book, which belongs to the complainant’s son.

The convict was arrested and led the police to retrieve a casio calculator, Tarsco identity card bearing the name of Amo Fredrick, two pairs of khaki trousers, radio set, electric iron, water bottle, set of cutlery, mathematical set, singlet and a pair of socks from his hideout.
