An unemployed 38-year-old man, accused of stealing GH¢46,700 from his girlfriend's safe, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court.

Upon his arrest, only GH¢2,000 was recovered from Ebenezer Addoh.

He allegedly confessed to the police that he had spent the money.

Charged with theft, Addoh pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, granted Addoh bail in the sum of GH¢40,000 with two sureties who must be civil servants earning at least GH¢2,000.

The court has recommended that the parties consider court-connected Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The case has been adjourned to July 2.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, leading the prosecution, stated that the complainant is a trader in Accra, while Addoh resides in Gbawe. Paulina Asiedu, the complainant's sister, is a witness in the case.

Paulina and the complainant share a residence at Darkuman Junction in Accra. On September 18, 2023, Addoh visited the complainant's home at Darkuman Junction, where he encountered Paulina. The prosecution reported that Addoh rested in the complainant's bedroom before departing the premises.

Upon returning from the market, the complainant found her bedroom safe broken into and GHC46,700 missing. She confronted Addoh, who vehemently denied any involvement in the theft.

The prosecutor revealed that the complainant subsequently petitioned the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, leading to Addoh's arrest on September 16, 2023, at his hideout in Gbawe Top-Base.

During questioning, Addoh reportedly admitted to the theft and disclosed that he had spent a portion of the stolen funds. The prosecution informed the court that GHC2,000 was recovered from Addoh and retained as evidence.
