Cape Coast, April 15, GNA - A circuit court in Cape Coast, on Tuesday remanded Shamo Salisu, an 18 year-old unemployed into police custody for allegedly stealing two mobile phones valued a GH¢ 390 belonging to one Mr Benjamin Sam. He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Monday April 21.

Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah that on April 13, 2008, Mr Sam solicited the assistance of Salisu to fetch him some water from a nearby stand pipe. He said when Salisu brought the water, he used the opportunity to enter Mr Sam's bedroom and stole his Nokia and Erickson mobile phones valued at GH¢ 300 and GH¢ 90 respectively.

Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo said immediately Salisu picked the phones he told Mr Sam that he wanted to attend to nature's call but Mr Sam told him he had a toilet in his house which he could use, but Salisu declined and left the house. He said after Salisu had left, Mr Sam entered his bedroom and detected that his two phones were missing and suspecting Salisu of taking them, he went out to look for him but he could not trace him. He said Mr Sam reported the matter to the police and Salisu was later arrested.

Chief Inspector Amonoo said during interrogation, Salisu admitted stealing the phones but said he had given them to one Seidu to charge them and that all efforts to trace the said Seidu proved futile.
