Unemployed remanded for attempted robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday remanded one Rashid Sulley, unemployed, for attempting to commit crime to wit robbery.

Rashid pleaded not guilty to the charge but was remanded by the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandor, to reappear on November 18.

The facts of the case as presented by Chief Superintendent of Police, Duuti Tuaruka are that the complainant Grace Attram is a trader residing at Dansoman, while the accused person is unemployed and resides at Abosey Okai, Zongo.

He said on November 8, while the complainant was going to her madam’s house at Dansoman, near Gold House Restaurant to render accounts, Rashid who was the pillion rider with his accomplice on a motor bike crossed her.

The prosecution said the accused person attempted to snatch the complainant’s hand bag but she held on to it tightly.

Rashid and his accomplice then pulled the complainant on the ground and in the process they both fell from the motor bike.

Chief Superintendent of Police Tuaruka said the complainant raised the alarm and the accused person and his accomplice abandoned the complainant’s hand bag, got on the motor bike and attempted to escape.

He told the court that a witness in the case who was in his car, chased them with his car until they fell into a gutter.

Rashid took to his heels but was chased and arrested, while his accomplice managed to escape with the motor bike.

He said the accused person was escorted to the police station where he was rearrested and detained.

The complainant made a report to the police and she was issued with a medical form to seek medical care.

According to the prosecution, Rashid denied the offence but admitted that he was on the motor bike.

He also failed to lead the police to arrest his accomplice.
