Unemployed to serve three months for stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has sentenced an unemployed man to three months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a 32 inches Hisense Led Flat screen television set.

Emmanuel Yaw Danso, 29, a native of Kwahu Mpraeso pleaded guilty.

Prosecution Detective Police Inspector Peter Agbelie told the Court presided over by Mr Alexander Oworae that the complainant of the case is Matthew Chapman Ennin, a student, who resides in Winneba, while the accused resides in Takoradi.

He said the complainant and the accused has been friends since 2011 when they met at Cape Coast Polytechnic.

The prosecution said on March 1st, the accused visited the complainant at Winneba and decided to spend the night with him.

Inspector Agbelie said the complainant woke up at about 0430 hrs, only to realize that the accused was nowhere to found and some items were also missing in the room.

The prosecution said a 32 inches Hisense Led flat screen television, one Samsung Galaxy S3 Mobile Phone, one Galaxy blade and Nokia Lumia 520, all valued at GHC 3,750.00, were items the accused took away.

He said complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested at his hideout in Cape Coast.

The television set was retrieved and in his caution statement, the accused admitted the offence and was arraigned before the court, Detective Inspector Agbelie added.
